Loss of Employment While on Probation
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan

I was sentenced to 4 months probation on the 23rd of june, i had my fines paid within a month being on and have completed all my terms of probation, and i completed counseling classes on the 16th of september, no failed drug tests either. I had a job recently until the company closed. Is there any way my probation officer would extend my probation because i dont have a job or is that unlikely? I told her i am looking for employment through email and she said keep me posted where you are applying, what if i cant find a job by the 23rd of this month, would i get into trouble? Any answer would be greatly appreciated as i have never been on probation before and dont plan on messing up because i would like to be done the day im supposed to be done. Thank you

If your company closed, why are you not receiving unemployment insurance, and being required to make job searches by them? All those programs connect as far as they completely know about each other.

If you get out of work, and there is some reason why you are not able to apply for and be approved for unemployment, then you didn't have a job with a real company, it didn't close, or they fired you or something, and the whole deal is fishy. Have you just been working there a short time? Did you apply for benefits and were told perhaps that you didn't have enough quarters of covered wages?

People who are on probation get laid off due to company closings and lack of work all the time, and they sign up for unemployment until they find another job, and while they are drawing it, they do work searches as required by the unemployment system and that is quite acceptable to probation. Why can you only do work searches by email? If I were your officer, I'd want to see lists and careful documentation of this work search, even if you're not able to get unemployment and being required to document your work searches for them.

You should describe your situation and your job search efforts to your probation officer.

I only worked there for 2 1/2 months and they closed september 13th. I got hired in knowing they were closing down but needed a job for probation. It was kmart. I miss worded my writing, i emailed her and told her i was looking for other employment. But i had arleady said that to her when i drug tested 4 days prior, she is just slower to emails. When i told her in person she said ok just keep me posted and nothing else. With my probation so close to being over, is there a way she would extend it simply because i dont have employment at he moment? Thank you for replying

can't guarantee she won't, but "ok, keep me posted" sounds like a fairly positive response to me, the lack of specific demands says to me that she has faith in you to take care of business without micromanagement.

you should keep a little notebook writing down what you do each day as far as where you applied for jobs, what you filled out, who you spoke with, who called you back, etc.

    Start with calming down.

You lost your job through no fault of your own. It happens and it won't be held against you. What you do now is diligently look for a new job. Keep a log of all the places you apply or contact with the results. Take this with you to any PO meeting or court hearing.

Showing you are trying is likely going to be acceptable. You can't make somebody hire you so you are doing everything you can to get a job.

Thank you both for the responses. The only reason i am worried is because i have done everything that is needed to be done to stay on track with this probation, and with only 2 and a half weeks left, i would hate for my p.o. to extend my probation over something little because i have came a long way since i was put on. I mean not many people have all there fines paid the first month in. Thank you for responding and helping me get a better picture of things
