What Happens After You're Caught Shoplifting if You're Allowed to Leave
My question involves criminal law for the state of: California
Yesterday i did something terrible that i reget deeply, i attempted to take a phone case from Target worth $40. i was stopped by someone at the door and taken to the back room. There they had me sign paper saying that i took that case, but they got their merchandise back. Police wasn't called, so they didn't appear, he did say he called the to get a background check as soon as he got the call back i was able to go home he didn't mention anything about getting a citation or anything he just said i couldn't go to the store for a year. Im just really scared and want to know what could happen?? and thins going to be on my criminal record? thank you

The store could make a complaint to the police and that could result in prosecution. They may forgo it and then you don't have to worry.
What you can count on is getting a letter from Target's "lawyers" demanding civil restitution for the damage you've caused.

What exactly is civil restitution?
