Can You be Charged With Enticing a Minor for Suggestive Texting

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Utah

Hi all. I'm 25, and I live in Utah. I have been talking to a 15 year old girl for about the last month. We had been flirting, I had sent a few pictures. Nothing sexually explicit, however I did have my shirt off in a couple. I would tell her she was sexy. I never asked for anything sexually explicit, she did send me one picture in a bra which I proceeded to delete. I have been very clear that we could not in fact ever hook up, and therefore do not believe I ever tried to entice her into sex. It was simply flirting to me because she made me feel good about myself. We had a falling out, and now she is threatening to go to the cops. I don't believe that I committed a crime. I never mentioned any sex acts with her. Should I be worried?

You already are worried. You know what you texted; we only have your general description -- but merely protesting from time to time, "I'm not trying to get you into bed" is not going to be a "Get Out of Jail Free" card if the rest of your texts suggest that in fact you're "knowingly us[ing] the Internet or text messaging to solicit, seduce, lure, or entice a minor, or to attempt to solicit, seduce, lure, or entice a minor, or another person [you believe] to be a minor, to engage in any sexual activity which is a violation of state criminal law". You need to get yourself under control and stop behaving in this manner with young teenagers, because you know where this is headed.

I made it clear to her, and it was her understanding as well, that I was not trying to lure her. I certainly recognize my mistake here and do not intend to do anything of the sort again. We never talked about sex acts just merely flirting, athough I could definitely see how it could be taken seriously. So yes I am concerned. I guess my question is how likely will this to be taken seriously by the authorities and what is my best course of action?

If it's reported to authorities you can expect them to thoroughly investigate.

Your best course of action is to stop hitting on minors, and start focusing your attention on adult women.

Is there any way for me to know if I'm under investigation? Yes I understand that, this was the only time I've ever done this and I have no intention of doing it again. I'm just trying to understand what exactly they would be looking for as grounds to charge. I never said anything like hey we should meet up and have sex.
