    Aiding and Abetting a Fugitive
    My question involves criminal law for the state of: Georgia

    Hi, I am new, so apologies for all the mistakes I probably made.

    I had a friend recently flee from her court-ordered rehab facility and she is now on the run.
    She will only speak to me (through text messages), and I am simply trying to keep her alive and safe.

    My question then is very simple;
    Is it illegal to speak with her? Am I aiding and abetting her escape?
    She won't tell me any details about where she is, where she is going, etc, but I have spoken to her.

    Is this illegal? Or is it only illegal if the cops ask me and I were to lie about it?

    Also of note, I am not in the same state as her legal issues, not sure if that makes a difference.

    Wrote this in a slight panic, apologies!

    Thanks

    Edited - thanks for moving this to the correct forum, sorry for the improper post

    Re: Aiding and Abetting a Fugitive
    The content of the conversations matter. Simply talking to her about the weather isn’t a crime. Giving her advice on how to hide from the cops very likely would be. Certainly lying to the cops about her whereabouts would be a criminal offense. If there is interstate flight involved here then there is both federal and state law to be concerned about.
