My Probation Officer is Attempting to Make Me Lose My Job
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Wisconsin
I am on probation until late April at which time my record can be expunged etc. I am on my last week of unemployment benefits. I accepted a job working for a company in town. The day of orientation I received a voicemail from my probation officer saying I had to be at a group meeting tomorrow morning no exceptions. She left me this message knowing that my start date is on that same day and I am to be working from 7-3:30 m-f and some weekends as well. So I quickly called and rescheduled my start date and explained the situation. They we're accommodating this time. But I only get 3 chances miss work or late for work 3 times in 90 days is automatic termination. My probation officer knows this as well. So if her intent is to make me lose my job or if I do lose said job because she is unwilling to work with my work schedule what can I do? I have spoken with her superior previously and was brushed off so filing a complaint will get me nowhere but on her bad side. What can I do to ensure I can keep my job comply with probation etc even though she is knowingly attempting to screw me out of my job? Should I contact a lawyer and if so what does this even fall under? I had thought probation officers we're supposed to keep you out of trouble and help you find work etc. Not attempt to make you lose jobs and spring things on you randomly at a moments notice because it works for them. I have complied fully with my probation and have done all I can to keep my probation officer content I call and leave voicemails regularly updating her on my activities and work inquiries etc. So please help me tell me what my options are. How can I keep my job not violate probation etc at this point?
Re: My Probation Officer is Attempting to Make Me Lose My Job
As we know nothing about your underlying offense, the terms of your probation, the required group meeting, or why you needed to attend that particular meeting, we're not in a position to comment on the probation officer's insistence that you attend that particular meeting. If there's something about these meetings or when they are scheduled that could potentially interfere with your job, by all means consult a lawyer about whether you should petition the court to modify your sentence, such as by allowing some form of alternative to the meetings.
As a general rule, probation officers want people who are on probation to be employed and to succeed in their jobs.
Re: My Probation Officer is Attempting to Make Me Lose My Job
I am on probation for Intent to Contribute to the Delinquency of a Minor. As I unknowingly texted the wrong person with the same name while intoxicated and had no idea their number was in my phone let alone under the same name as my younger sister frequently used my phone when hers was broken. Unable to prove my side of things I took a plea and 9 months probation ending in April. So I am to be at a sex offenders informational group meeting they are not labeling me as a sex offender I did not have to register and I do not have to register etc it is simply a group meeting they want me to go to while on probation yet the frequency or amount of times I am required to appear was not disclosed to me either. Also the facility is nearly two hours from where I live and as of the moment there are issues with my vehicle I cannot fix so yes it will get me there but for how long. I also have no other ride options so if anything goes wrong with my vehicle then I am unable to show up for anything not even the monthly or biweekly meeting with my p.o. hence why I took the job I did it pays enough to get me by and is within a few city blocks. I hope this helps you to be able to better answer my question. Thank you.

If there is a likely problem with your work schedule, talk to your probation officer about future meeting attendance obligations and times.
