Fraud by a Cashier
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Massachusetts
My friend and I (we are both minors/honors students with clean records) worked in the same retail store together. One day, my friend decided to purchase a phone case (approx. $99.99) and asked if I would ring it up at the register for him. I did, and when it came time for him to pay, he handed me only $20 and I entered it into the register as the full amount.
Three weeks later, my friend got a letter in the mail from the company saying he had shoplifted. He was also contacted by the police, who said he had to go to court (for a misdemeanor offense), pay a $250 fine, and everything would be dropped from his record.
However, a few days have passed and I haven't been contacted by the company nor the police. What do you think will/will not happen to me?
Thanks for any help.

Re: Cashier Fraud
Possibly the same thing that happened to your friend.
You'll just have to sweat out your stupidity for a while.

Re: Cashier Fraud
If there is any justice in the world, the same thing that happened to him. Oh, and it goes without saying that you both should be fired.

Any explanation as to why my friend received a letter and was contacted by the police about 4 days ago but I haven't heard anything at all yet?

Re: Cashier Fraud
Perhaps they're hoping that your friend's statement will help them build a case against you. Odds are that you'll find out if and when they contact you.

Re: Cashier Fraud
Maybe your friend was stealing more then just the phone case, and him being discovered has nothing to do with you?
