Purging Contempt for Child Support Arrears

My question involves child support in the State of: Tennessee My fiance has been in jail for over 13 months over arrearages with a purge of $2300. He has paid $1290 of that leaving $1010. He went back to court yesterday, the judge tells all the inmates who are there for the same charges; " It is this court's policy that if you have half your purge paid, you will be released." That being said, my fiance was the exception! The judge said he would not be released until his purge was paid in full! Is there anything at all that he can do about this?

Could it be the fact that he's been in there for over a year and only paid $1200?

How far behind is your fiancé? And when did he become engaged to you? And did he buy you an engagement ring?

I strongly doubt Fiancee has the facts straight to begin with. Somebody, somewhere, isn't being entirely truthful.

The Judge can make exceptions. I agree.you don't know the hold story. The Judge has a good reason.

He's paid more since he's been in jail than he did before. The OP still hasn't answered about the engagement ring, although I doubt she has one, but I may be wrong. He probably spends his money on himself and no one else, unless he's in jail. We also don't know how many times he's been to.jail for not paying support. if he had a job, had he been in jail for other things like drugs, etc. On the other hand all the OP knows is what she's told, unless she goes to the court house and looks everything up herself.

For what it's worth, I'm simply not a fan of jailing folk who can't pay child support. By the same token, some deadbeats insist on trying to get out of their obligation any which way they can. And those would be the ones who look for any little loophole to get 'em out of supporting their children.
