Arrested for Unpaid Child Support in Another State
My question involves child support in the State of: Michigan
My buddy lives in IL, and has unpaid child support in Michigan. He was arrested in IL, and is being extradited to Michigan. He owes about $69K in back child support. How long before Michigan comes and gets him? How will I know when Michigan comes for him and how will I know where he is in Michigan? Will Michigan return him to IL after he posts bond or will I have to drive up there to get him? What happens if he can't post the bond amount ?
Re: Arrested for Unpaid Child Support in Another State
We don't schedule pick-up times. If he's not picked up within the statutory framework for extradition, he'll be released.
If you contact the jail and he's no longer incarcerated there, odds are he has either been extradited or released. If you know the county where his charge is pending in Michigan -- it would appear to be a criminal nonsupport case -- odds are he will be in the county jail in that county.
Odds are he will not be permitted to leave the state if he posts bond -- but we have no way of telling you his bond conditions. If he can't post bond, he will remain in jail pending the resolution of his charge.
