What Penalty Will a Juvenile Get for Aggravated Assault
My question involves juvenile law in the State of: NJ
I am a 17 year old female. Here's my story.. I was in the park. My ex-friend and ex-boyfriend had wanted to meet with my current boyfriend to tell him about some things in my past to try to get him to break up with me. I wasn't supposed to be there but I was not having it. I would hear what they were saying about me. After the conversation ended I was so enraged that the ex-friend was there and had contacted my ex-boyfriend I took a bottle I had in my purse and broke it over his(the ex-friends head) Now there are two witnesses, my current boyfriend and my ex boyfriend. The ex-friend says he is pressing charges. I have no school or criminal record to speak of until this incident. The police haven't contacted my parents yet, but I expect they will soon if the ex-friend wasn't bluffing about the charges. What can I expect? Aggravated assault? My main concern is being charged as an adult and doing time in a juvenile detention center or even worse, adult prison. I wouldn't survive a day there, I'm not physically strong at all nor am I anywhere near intimidating.
Re: Am I Going to Go to Juvy or Get Let Off with Conseling and Parole
You were intimidating enough when you committed an assault.
The EL crystal ball is out being recalibrated; the magic 8 ball is broken and Madame Zuleika is still on vacation, so our ability to predict the future is limited. You'll find out what happens to you when it happens.
If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.
Re: What Penalty Will a Juvenile Get for Aggravated Assault
Are we to guess that, despite your breaking a bottle over somebody's head, there were no serious injuries?
A juvenile court is going to take into consideration the facts of the offense, along with your home, school, community and prior police record, when fashioning an appropriate disposition.
