Pleading Guilty to Shoplifting
I just registered for this site so i could ask questions, i don't see where I can post my own thread. Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read this. My fiance and I were accused of shoplifting at a WalMart in gulf shores Alabama, we were 3 days in on our vacation there with his whole family. When we were taken to that certain room we tried everything to show we didn't steal anything at all, our three year old son was also with us, they have on the paper that we stole a big pack of cars which my son was playing with which was on the receipt, hamburger meat, our almost gone sunscreen, a (sandy and hot) dr. Pepper which I had brought straight from the beach and they also took my OWN makeup out of my makeup bag and added up everything that was outs from our beach bag\diaper bag and it was added up to almost $80. I'll be 23 this month and my fiance is 25 & neither of us have been arrested before.. We were told if we didn't plead guilty wed have a long expensive road ahead with going to trial and we can't afford that nor to keep driving to gulf shores AL. From Murfreesboro TN, so yesterday we were there on time and plead guilty, the judge talked so down to me I was crying to much to answer him but other than him calling me a scum bag of a mother for our son being there when it happened, calling me a loser etc. He blew me away and told me if he has anything to do with it that the D.A will be coming to take our son away from us.. I don't see how that's possible but like I said I have never been in trouble nor arrested so idk what could be true or what isn't true. Just hoping he was just trying to scare me but honestly he was nicer to the people who lied to him and also nicer to two women that were caught shooting meth while pregnant, making jokes and being really nice and when it came my turn its like he snapped and I don't understand. Ge asked me if our son was there when it happened and I told the truth and said yes but now I regret it. I wont lose my son to something this small and stupid, we would never put our son in danger.
Re: Consequences of Shoplifting
Legal "initial" consultations usually are for no other purpose than to indicate what the nature of hiring the attorney would be. You're darn right if they have to do research for your consultation it's way more than just an "initial."
Usually the lawyer doesn't even want to hear details of the case other than what you are charged with as he is in such circumstances not in an attorney-client relationship and hence such communication is not privileged. Don't expect to get anything more than: Usually all you get is "sign this and pay this" or "don't talk to anybody and call me back if you get arrested" as your initial.
