Can You Get a Judgment Removed From Your Credit History
My question involves a judgment from the State of: California

My ex-fiance stayed in a co-signed rental right up until the day the landlord was going to evict us for non-payment. I had vacated the residence months before and attempted to help her leave the premises and settle with the landlord to no avail. She would not comply and we barely avoided an eviction judgement as I hired movers to get her things out the day before the court date. The landlord took us to small claims court and won a settlement. My ex had no financial stability as she lost her job so I was left to pay the judgement. It's almost fully paid off and I have heard that there was a way to have the record of the case removed from background checks or histories once I've paid up in full. Is this true and how would I go about filing for that with the courts? I am in North County San Diego so the Vista Court is where everything was filed.

    Thank you again.

The judgment is a public record. Paying off the judgment should result in your credit report being updated to show a zero balance on the judgment, but it will stay on your credit report.

You can discuss with the judgment creditor whether they will petition for a dismissal of the judgment based upon your payment of what you owe, but they are free to say "no" and I make no promise that the court would grant such a motion even if they agree.
