Obtaining Residential Addresses Through Criminal Complaints
My question involves criminal records for the state of: NY

I routinely go to NYC criminal courts to pick up criminal complaints after an arrest. However, the defendant's residential address is rarely listed, usually only in cases where the NYPD raided an apartment.

However, lets say the local newspaper reports a crime in the borough. The author will usually identify a portion of the perp's residential address. For example, the article may state that "Mr. Smith lives on the 500 block of ABC Avenue"

Well, since there is only one bldg on the 500 block of ABC Avenue, I know which building they are referring to. In addition, I'm sure the media has the entire address but are publishing only a portion of the building address.

How does the local media obtain the perp's residential address? I imagine they are going to the public records just like me but they must be looking at something other than the criminal complaint.

    Thanks!!

Ask someone in the local media.

Why do you want the address? What do you do with the criminal complaints?

    The media have inside sources.

Subscribe to a database such Lexus Nexus or another database and pay to get a consumer report on the person.

The usual way you find somebody's address, once you know their name, is to use a phone directory. Newspapers often subscribe to directory services that provide more complete and comprehensive information than the standard white pages or free website.

If you can simply reach into your posterior and pull out answers you know to be correct, why are you asking other people for the facts?
