Sealing Criminal Records in New York
My question involves criminal records for the state of: New York.
I have one misdemeanor (petit larceny reduced to disorderly conduct) about year old. After googling my name I was unpleasantly surprised to see that my court record can be accessed virtually by anyone for a small charge. Even some local newspaper has my name, charges that I was arrested with, place of residence and age at the time of the arrest in their archived report. :distress: The question is: what is the appropriate procedure to seal it or expunge ALL OF IT if possible. And to shut that news paper as well.
Thank you.
Re: Sealing Criminal Records in New York
You can't compel the removal of accurate information from a newspaper website. You can ask them to voluntarily remove the information, but they are free to decline.
Disorderly conduct should be a non-criminal disposition, and many courts will seal the record automatically. Check with the sentencing court to determine whether that's its standard practice and, if so, why your case wasn't sealed.

How do I check with the court? Should I just call them?
