Emanicapation for a 16 year old
I'm sure there are many teens here asking questions about emancipation. Many come from rough homes with either a parent or legal guardian abusing themself or the child. I am one of those teens. My mother is a druggie and my father is now in jail for possesion of crack-cocaine...again. They have been seperated for sometime now (about 14 years) and we havent gotten support from my father for about 5 years. (he stopped paying before he went to jail) I live with my mother and my step father. I love them both dearly, but i can't be subjected to this kind of lifestyle any longer. My step father is very angry all the time, and frankly, I don't like him. I am a fairly intelligent girl and i do believe i could support myself. I don't think my mother would ever sign a petiton for me to leave. I have spoken to her about me leaving before and she gets very angry when i do. Nobody treats me like a growing 16 year old. I am always having to watch my siblings (there are 4 others, all younger) but i never get to go out with other people. I have friends who are older than me, but that is becasue i take college courses and i cant tolerate idoicy. That is another reason why i need to leave. I am not being treated with the respect i should be getting. I dont care about the material things they buy me, what i want is love and support of my decision. Please help me.

Where I am unsure if and what your state emancepation laws are you will need at least two things

. You need to be 100% self supporting

    . You need parental consent

With them your dead in the water. You could speak with a school counselor about other options
