Is Posting Identifying Information About Someone Illegal
My question involves criminal law for the state of: OR

Basically, is doxxing illegal? I've heard yes and I've heard no. Doxxing is basically posting information about someone (name, address, place of employment, etc.) and not stuff for identity theft like CC numbers or SSNs. Just know this posting of info is NOT accompanied by threats or promises of violence (though some people have been terminated from their jobs because of disparaging comments on social media and contacted via doxxing information).

I've heard its not legal because of presumed "cyberstalking" but I've heard that its not inherently illegal because all of the info posted is available to the public anyways. Thanks!

Generally, it is not illegal to post accurate, public information about somebody else online.

Could a specific case cross a line into harassment or some other offense? It's possible, but one would need to know the facts.

And it does not have to be illegal before an employee can be fired for it.
