Signing Somebody Up for Schools as a Prank, Resulting in Unwanted Phone Calls

My question involves criminal law for the state of: illinois

hello,
i recently had a terrible transaction on an auction website where i'm convinced the person sent me back a different item.
so i phoned them up after getting the return because they still seemed angry after getting a refund.

i ended up signing their information up with a few online school information requests as a joke.
they said they are going to file harassment charges against me and that it's a federal offense.
i contacted all the sites i signed up information at, and requested they do not call.
i apologized to the person and tried to work with them on both problems, the auction was refunded etc.

is there anything this person can do over a few colleges calling them?
when i inquired they said if you get a call just ask them to stop and they will.
they live in another state than me if that's worth mentioning.

thanks for any information. i screwed up but now i'm freaking out.
i didn't think the person would goto the police department or wherever.

i've never been charged with anything as an adult.

So what were you charged with as a juvenile?

i dont know if they are just bluffing to stop contact or what yet. i'm an adult not juvenile.
i wasn't thinking and i apologized to the person but they have only contacted me with rage.
even after they were verbally abusive on the phone about the auction item issue.
it's hard to tell if they are just angry or can actually make me deal with something beyond this.

one of my parents died a few months ago and i've been taking medication that's new to me.
my life has been turned upside down as a result of that and i'm just losing my mind. a whole different topic though.
like i said i wasn't thinking, i've had the worst year of my life and i guess getting yelled at on the phone annoyed me.
people have signed up my phone for college's before and they never told me where the sign ups originated from when they called.
the person said that he has my ip address from the college info request. the ip part seems a bit like BS that a company would share that.

i contacted all the school sites and requested they add his information to their do not call list and remove all information.
not sure what else i can do to show signs of good will. any contact with this person has been them being extremely agitated with wanting zero help.

sorry, i'm just not wording it properly.

i haven't been charged with anything ever.
i've only had a traffic ticket or two in my lifetime.
nothing in the past 10 years at all even traffic violations etc.
i think those tickets were when i was like 19 or 20

Ummm, there've been lots of times when I've not been thinking due to the loss of family members, taking medication, and personal health crises, and not one of those times have caused me to do anything like what you did.

i already know i made a stupid mistake. i feel terrible and have been trying to fix it since 20 minutes after doing it.
not everyone is the same or reacts the same to situations.

The person can call the police. What the police choose to do with the information? Only time will tell. Are you both in Illinois?
