    Shoplifting in Oklahoma - Target
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Oklahoma

I shoplifted from Target. The total was around $307. I had my court appearance today and the judge suggested I plead Not Guilty, so I did. Now I have a court case for August 5th 2015.

    1. Do I need a public defender or lawyer? They didn't appoint me one but I called them and left a message for just in case.

    2. What will happen? This is my first time and I've read about a Diversion program and paying fines with community service.

    3. How can I get this down to look like a misdemeanor when a job does a background search?

The judge told me he couldn't tell me what he'd so if I pled Guilty or No Contest but he'd advise me to plead Not Guilty so I did. I just don't want to go to jail

1.) A public defender is a lawyer. And yes, you need a lawyer, whether it's a PD or not.

2.) Sorry, the EL crystal ball is out being recalibrated

3.) YOU can't get it pled down. It's possible a lawyer might be able to.
