Pocketing Somebody's Phone

My son went into a store and founder a phone on the counter for reasons unknown to me he put it in his pocket and walked out the store.. when I realized this I went back to the store and returned it.. It apperently belonged to an employee and he is saying that the store is pressing charges.. Is that possible?

The store employee certainly may report this the police. What your son did was theft. The fact that you returned the phone does not negate the theft. It might, however, make the police and prosecutor less likely to want to pursue it. But there’s no way to know how some unknown police officer and prosecutor will react to it.

By the way, it’s better to start a new thread when you want to ask a question rather than tag it to someone else’s thread. Your question gets more attention that way and it won’t run the risk of diverting the conversation in someone else’s threa. A moderator may split your post off to a new thread for that reason.
