Friend Stole from Liquor Store Without Me Knowing
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Texas
Here's what happened:
Yesterday, my neighbor stopped by and invited me to party with her that night. I hadn't seen or spoken to her in years, so I agreed and thought it would be a good way to catch up. She calls some friends and makes arrangements, then she and I drive to a local liquor store to pick up some booze. We're both 21.
She picked up a lot of stuff, so I offered to buy a few bottles. We make our purchases and go back out to her car. She starts to drive away and then pulls a stolen bottle out of her purse. I had no idea she was intending to shoplift and I didn't even see her hide the bottle. She drives us back to her house, I drink for a few hours, then head right back home.
I'm terrified of getting in some sort of trouble for this. I've never stolen anything before and I'm horrified that this girl would put me in this situation when we haven't even talked for years. I've never been in any legal trouble and I have no clue what steps I should take here. On our way home she told me she steals things "all the time" and has never been caught before.
Should I leave well enough alone and hope that she doesn't get caught? Go back to the store and admit she stole and try to pay for the stolen bottle? Go to the police?
I'm totally clueless here and any advice is greatly appreciated.

The best thing for you would be to simply leave it alone and never go anywhere with that neighbor again. The worst thing you could do for yourself would be to go back to that liquor store or admit to anyone that you know that she stole the bottle.

Agree.
You have the right to remain silent.
