14-Year-Old Wants To Move Out in New York
I'm 14 years old, and am aware that it is supposed to be 16, but I can't stand it any more. My stepmother is almost constantly screaming at me about something. She will tell me to shut up when I'm talking to my sisters for no apparent reason. All she ever does is yell. There are very few days in a year that she isn't screaming at me. My father is just psychotic. He will get extremely pissed off at the smallest things. I have been grounded for a week for forgetting the trash. I just recently was grounded for 2 months just because I told my stepmother that she left the laundry to rot when she swore it was me. I am always being told how much of a screw up I am, and how the family would have no problems if I wasnt around. My parents almost never compliment anything I do, and only talk about the things that I forgot/didnt complete. I just got into a fight with my father last night (first time with fists) Please give advise.

Are you able to get a job and support yourself one hundred percent?

There is no way on God's green earth that a 14 year old can be emancipated in any state except California, and in California for that to happen you'd better be either a successful child actor or a nationally recognized athlete.

I have my friends parents telling me that if I succeed they would gladly adopt me, which would give me the support I need. I will never associate with CPS. I have met them several times and I have come to realize that the moment I talk to them, I no longer have any choices in life. I would be better off running away to someone I know and trust, like my friends parents, because they will put you with whoever they like.

    A. It was a figure of speech :D

    B. I can't see why my parents would want to consent. Is there a way that CPS can put me in a house of my choice if they find the parents trustworthy there? My father found out that I had been planning on doing this, and he went to court and cut off communications between me and my mother (because she found a lawyer who said it was possible) and then told me that he had turned down the offer to "let me go" to the state, but that if I make a wrong decision, he will drop me off with them (them being "the system").

I was wondering if teens were able to tell CPS about a home that is welcome to them, or if they just throw you into a foster home like my father has been telling me:confused:

Running away in Ny ain't gonna do anything but get you, and where ever your staying at into trouble. I don't think CPS can do anything for you, unless your dad and step mom are on some serious narcotic's, are unable to support you, or are abusive. I believe if I remember right, as of 13 you have the right to choose which parent you want to live with. The only downfall is if your mom is incapable of taking care of you.

Yes but that family would most likely need to contact CPS and make request after you were placed in Foster care

Just want to clarify, at 13 the court may consider his preference on who he would like to live with (mom or dad), but the child doesn't get to choose.

Mentallyabused, it sounds like things are getting "out of control" at home. I know you don't want to get CPS involved, but that is what I would still recommmend. It is possible that they may recommend family counseling to get things back on track.

That is very true the goal of CPS is NOT to split famlies apart but to aid them in unification

My father just hit me a week ago(fists involved), and found out what I was doing(emancipation/CPS) and has gotten a court order saying I cant talk to my mother and is making me get a psycologic evaluation at South Oaks. Normally I wouldn't be bothered, but he is an extremely good manipulator when he want's to be, and he knows that I was about to expose him for the psycotic monster that he is. This is the same thing he did to suppress my mother. If I don't get out of here before the evaluation, my life is over. Everyone who knows me knows I have never done anything to hurt anyone in any way, I have nothing about me that puts a risk to anyone. I have already got half of my enemies getting me lawyers to help me out of this. I don't know what to do, but now things are getting desperate, and something has to happen fast. I only have 5 days left. I need to get out of here, or my life will be ruined forever.
