How Do I Get My Granddaughters Out of Foster Care
My question involves guardianship in the State of: Indiana
My granddaughters have been in foster care for about 14 mos. By the time we found out, the parents were jumping through the hoops of cps and I didn't want to interfere since I thought they were being successful. They lost their place of residence and cps wants to take their parental rights. They asked if I would take guardianship. I agreed. Now I can't get them to return calls, the cps case worker is no longer working at that office, and I can't get the supervisor to return calls. How do I file for guardianship if I want to bypass the parents? What kind of issues am I looking at? I live in Indianapolis, but they live in Jennings County. I am waiting for legal aid in that jurisdiction to get back with me. CPS won't talk to me unless the parents sign a release of information.

What you really need to do is get in touch with the new case worker, to try to get what appears to be their wish to place the children with you back on track.
Child protective proceedings involve frequent review hearings, and you may want to consider showing up for the next scheduled hearing if you have not been able to adequately communicate with the DCS before that time. You may also want to consider hiring a lawyer.
