Renewing a Green Card After Marriage
My finance and I have been together a long time and living together for almost 2 years. We are getting married this month in my family church. He recently learned that he was up for renewal of his green card in February. Generally his mother has always handled this because he has been in the US since 1 year old. Does he still need to renew if we marry this month? Does he need to renew before our wedding? What happens after we marry? If so what is the process we need to take & what forms should we process? We need to do this on a tight budget. Also he is originally from EL Salvador, not sure if there is different rules for different countries.

His card expires - but his residency does not expire.

Legally he's supposed to keep his card current and on his person, but realistically nobody is going to give a hoot if you get married while a replacement card is pending.

Remember, the card itself is only physical proof that he's a legal resident - that's all it is. Get married, have fun and deal with it later once you're back from cloud nine :)

    Good luck!
