How to Transfer Your Probation to Another State
My question involves criminal law for the state of: my boyfriend lives in Georgia and is on probation until 2018 what does he have to do to be able to transfer to north Carolina where I live? He knows he still has money to pay but would lije a chance to start a new life. Is it possible for him to transfer after all his fines are paid?
Re: Is It Okay to Transfer Probation from Georgia to Another State
He may be allowed to transfer his probation without having paid all the fines, which he would still have to pay. His first step would be checking with his PO to see if they are amenable to such a transfer. Then NC would have to be contacted to see if they would accept the transfer.
What the answer to both those questions would be depends on how long he's been on probation, what for, his relationship with his PO and any of a number of other factors.

It also depends on what standing he is while on probation. Has he been violated? Is he in compliance with his conditions? Who will he reside with in NC? If it's you, it may not be stable enough for the receiving state to feel comfortable with approving. Even if you chose to get married, those arrangements often won't help because of the timing of the marriage coinciding with the request for transfer. Does he have a job already lined up if he gets approved? Those things factor into the equation.
