Sexual Assault Charges Based Upon a New Report of a Past Incident
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Iowa, can anyone direct me to any cases from Iowa where a person had been charged with a sexual assault of a minor. Five years after it was reported to the police and investigated when the reporting person was still a minor, and the suspect was named.why Would re-reporting change anything just because the person turned 18.

You can see what turns up in the case law. Other charges are irrelevant to your own.

We have no information about why a new report would change anything, or whether it has. Perhaps additional accusations arose during the five year period.

according to the indictment the accuser says everything happened 10-12 yrs ago.
I,am looking for supreme court cases dealing with the time frame issue. I know other cases don't apply with my charges but supreme court rulings will give some direction.

I would think the new interest in the charge is because of the change in Statute of Limitations in Iowa. They have gone from ten years after the victim turned 18 to 25 years after the victim turns 18. Whether or not they can apply that retroactively is a topic for you and your lawyer to discuss.
