Formatting Requirements for an Informal Discovery Request in California
My question involves traffic court in the State of: California
Do informal discovery requests in California typically have a specific format that varies from court to court, or is it just that "informal"? I ask because I have seen many different versions posted online, but I haven't seen anything yet that says that they require a specific formatting like they would in the case of a pre-trial motion or declaration made to a court.

There is no specific requirement for format. You can use a motion template if you want, but a simple letter will also do just fine. You might want to check the local rules of court but I doubt there will be a format specified for this. You do need proof of service. I've used the Civil POS Form for this, although it's clearly a criminal matter, since I've not found one that applies specifically.
I'd send it to the DA at least even though they'll say it's not their concern. You can also forward one to the LEA but that's technically the DA's job.
