Emancipation when Only One Parent Agrees
My question involves guardianship in the State of: Michigan
i want to get emancipated and my dad is behind me 100% the only problem is, he doesn't have custody of me.
My mom had me and my brother taken away when we were like 3/4 because of abuse and neglect.
Well I'm living with my mom again and its terrible. He sees it and has offered to fight for custody back. The only problem is i work and go to school in a different city then he lives in and i cant quit both my jobs. Is it still possible to get emaciated even when the parent with custody wont agree and is abusing me? Would a criminal record affect any of this as well?
Re: Emaciation when Only One Parent Agrees
Katie, it doesn't matter how many times you ask the question, the answer is going to remain the same.
Before you were picked up for shoplifting, your chance at emancipation was about one half of one percent. Now it is zero. There is NO chance, NO CHANCE WHATSOEVER that any judge anywhere in the US will emancipate a minor with a history of shoplifting. That guarantees that you need more adult supervision, not less. Emancipation is NOT going to happen, no matter what Dad says.
Rather than wasting your time, and pissing off the judge for wasting his time, pursing an emancipation that is not going to happen, better to have Dad try for custody. That's at least got a prayer of happening. Emancipation does not.

why would you want to be sickeningly thin?
and any parent that gave a single darn about their children would do anything they could to prevent their child from being emaciated.
