Who Must Serve Notice to Quit on a Subtenant - The Master Tenant of Their Landlord
My question involves an eviction in the state of: COLORADO.
Greetings everyone! I have a very important question that I absolutely could use the help on figuring out. The question is relatively simple, the answer I hope so too.
Basically my brother and I were given a basement to rent out, under the table (off the lease). We made an agreement with the three roommates upstairs to pay them our rent, which they would in turn use to help them pay their rent to their landlord (who never found out about us otherwise).
The question is, since there was a "master sublandlord" that took our money monthly and dispersed it between him and the other two roommates upstairs, is he the one that needs to serve and sign the notice to quit (and the actual eviction summons too)?
Suppose the master landlord of the property finds out about us and attempts to serve us her notice to quit directly, only signed by her. Is that valid or can we request a proper serving from "our" landlord?
Thank you so very much for any any all input you have to provide! Please don't point fingers though at my brother and I for living "under the table" -- we have very good reasons as to why. We just need to know our rights, which we know we have them, we just don't which rights we have and how to apply them!
Thank you again,
D & W

If the landlord evicts her tenants, then the subtenants get the boot as well.
The master tenants can evict their subtenants.
You have an interminably long thread on this subject; it's best to keep things concise and to ask your questions in one thread.
