Ordinance Ticket for Unlawful Possession of Marijuana

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Illinois

I was with a couple people from school when we got pulled over by Orland Park Police and we had Marijuana in the car less than a gram and the police wrote us all ordinance tickets for unlawful possession of Marijuana. They said that it will not show up on our record or background checks but when i looked it up online it says that it will show up on background checks. I really just need help here I'm a full time student at DePaul university and I'm afraid this is going to haunt me in the future. Any information is appreciated thank you.
