Can You Be Prosecuted for Stealing if You Pay a Civil Demand
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Nevada
I'm 19 in Nevada. No police were involved and I wasn't given a citation when I was detained.
I paid the civil demand to JCP for my accused petty larceny after getting the advise from an attorney. Even though I signed a court summons form and they said I'd be getting a court arraignment in the mail, do you think they might drop charges and accept the civil demand without taking me to court? And if I don't get a summons during the time frame they said, should I call the court and ask or should I let it go?
Re: Might I Not Go to Court if I Paid Civil Demand for Shoplifting
The Civil Demand is just that a civil matter. The summons is a criminal matter. Paying the demand does not negate the criminal matter.
