Can a Seventh Grade Dropout Get Emancipated
My question involves juvenile law in the State of: georgia
Hi, i am 15 about to turn 16 in June .
I am not in school i havent been to school since 7th grade because i was unruly and my parents gave up and never put me back in. I dont know why nobody has noticed and nothing has been done but it. It is too late to get back in school without anyone getting in ttrouble. So i need to get my ged so i can get a job but considering my circumstances i dont know if i,will, qaulify to get my ged. Do i need,to get emancipated first? Can i get emancipated? I need a job first, but cant get a job without having my ged. My parents dont have custody of me, my aunt does, not a good environment i moved out at the age of 12. I live with my boyfriend of 3 years but i know thats, not reliable Enough. Does anybody have any advice for me. Do i have,to wait until im 18 to start my life and get a job? What can i do? My auny doesnt even have a,place to live she goes from, hotel to hotel she doesnt have a job. If i got emancipated would it even help me? What can i do? Im 15 living on my own, cant go back home, cant go back to school, cant get emancipated, cant get my ged. Im in a pickle and,i dont know what to do but wait until im 18. But what if me and my,boyfriend break up? Then what? He has taken, care of me for 3 years. Please any advice will help.

And quite possibly illegal.
No, you are not eligible for emancipation. Georgia makes it nigh on impossible as it is. With your situation, it just isn't going to happen.
Re: Can a Seventh Grade Dropout Get Emancipated
Frankly, it's a shame nobody in your life was enough of an adult to involve protective services in your case.
Read this thread. You do not meet the requirements for emancipation.
Re: Can a Seventh Grade Dropout Get Emancipated
Yes it is a shame, but i didnt post this for people to tell me whats wrong, i already know whats wrong. What i am trying to figure out is what do i do now? Also, protective services is not always the aanswer. I have already been in foster care for about 2 years all it did was scar me. But thats a whole different conversation. I need advice on what to do NOW. Not what should have been done.
Re: Can a Seventh Grade Dropout Get Emancipated
Sorry you're not getting the rosey answers you wanted. You seem to entirely misunderstand emancipation. As Mr. K points out, emancipation is NOT an option for you. Emancipation is not the procedure for getting people out of alleged abusive situations. We don't turn children out on their own in such cases, we find alternative custody. Yes, foster care ain't as nice as being shacked up with your boyfriend, but that situation is FAR from healthy as well.
The options are to talk to some responsible person, try your school counselor or the DFCS (see here http://dfcs.dhs.georgia.gov/child-abuse-neglect). Do not expect them to agree that your current situation is acceptable.
Re: Can a Seventh Grade Dropout Get Emancipated
Looking for a way to fix the problem with no one getting in trouble? Sorry, not going to happen. SOMEONE is going to get in trouble - someone that is not you. Whether it's your parents, your boyfriend, your boyfriend's family, your aunt, your foster parents, or even CPS, this situation isn't going to get fixed without someone being on the carpet. I'm not necessarily talking about criminal charges - I'm not necessarily talking about legal charges at all. But if you're looking for a solution that will allow everyone involved to walk away unscathed, there isn't one.
There is no possible chance, even in your wildest dreams, of your being emancipated.
So, with all that said, I am asking this in all seriousness. I'm not yelling at you or being sarcastic - I'm looking for a starting place to get you some help. Understanding what I've said above is not going to change and you're going to have to live with that, what, in your opinion, of all the second-best solutions would be the best possible one?
Re: Can a Seventh Grade Dropout Get Emancipated
(Y'all want to recalibrate your troll-sniffing meter. I'm serious)
Re: Can a Seventh Grade Dropout Get Emancipated
Frankly, its a shame that everybody wants to tell me what i should have done or tell me that i need to go to DFACS. Its a shame society thinks they know whats best for me after reading a paragraph about my situation. Its a shame that everyone would rather
That nobody is giving me actualy helpful advice and are judging me instead. Thabks for your SO HELPFUL input, but no thanks.

Thank for coming to the show everybody. But now the show is ending. Hope you enjoyed it, no faith in humanity restored.
Re: Can a Seventh Grade Dropout Get Emancipated
Of course, if you'd answered my question, you might have gotten some helpful advice. Which makes me wonder how much you really needed or wanted it.
Point taken, Doggie.
Re: Can a Seventh Grade Dropout Get Emancipated
It's a shame that you thought you were posting to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter where, instead of telling you what the law is, we would wave our magic wands and make it so that the law doesn't apply to you. But alas, we're stuck in the real world.
Re: Can a Seventh Grade Dropout Get Emancipated
Yall are so right. Thank you so much for all your helpful advice. Im gonna go and call DFACS right now and tell them to come get me, im 'shacked' up with my boyfriend and need serious help. Might as well call the cops on my family as well, get them locked up and ill be one step closer to my goal. Thank you guys really. Also thanks for telling me thats this isnt harry potter because i was clueless to that fact. Thanks for calling me a "doggie" i truly appreciate the kindness of you GREAT AND WONDEFUL people. Could you maybe help with one more thing? How do i delete this wonderful so helpful post?:)

To cbg you were the only one to give some kind of help but im already fed up with this whole thing, ill figure it out. And if i get it figured out without anyone getting in trouble, ill be sure to come back on here & let all of you know. Thanks.
Re: Can a Seventh Grade Dropout Get Emancipated
A demonstration of your immaturity is not going to convince a single person that you should be emancipated.
The reference to "doggie" was to user Dogmatique, not to you.
Re: Can a Seventh Grade Dropout Get Emancipated
I dont need to convince any of you about anything except maybe for one of you to tell me how to delete this. I dont care for, your opinions or advice any longer just want this deleted. Also let me clear up this, this post was not just about getting emancipated . i need a job, my GED i needed help to get there. Not a number to social services.
Re: Can a Seventh Grade Dropout Get Emancipated
If you google "GED Georgia", you will find links to information on getting a GED. You will probably need to take some classes to prepare for it, so someone will need to pay for that. Getting a job as a dropout with no GED will be pretty much impossible. You will need to focus on the GED first.

Even after you turn 16, employers will look askance at you given your track record of truancy. If you can't drag your butt to school, why should anybody believe you'll drag your butt to work?
Enroll in school and start attending classes. Get a work permit and a part-time after-school job.

Too bad. If you don't want the public to weigh in, don't post in public places.
There's an old adage from USENET that applies here. "Ask not the internet for counsel, for it will answer yes, and no, and go f* yourself." Keep that in mind the next time you go asking strangers questions that you don't actually want the correct answers to.
The correct answer, whether you like it or not, is that you need to get DCFS involved so you can be properly re-enrolled in school to get a decent education and be made ready to face the real world on your own. You are not eligible to take the GED yet. You MUST be 18 years old, unless you are enrolled in a state approved adult education course and have received permission to test.
Re: Can a Seventh Grade Dropout Get Emancipated
You're still a minor. You will need a parent, foster parent or guardians signature to do things. Even with a GED, you will need these things if you're under 18. The boyfriend may end up in jail. Being an adult means doing things you don't want to do and don't like. Everyone has rules and laws they must go by, Their age doesn't matter.

Missy, I have never loved you more than I do right now.
You've just made my day.
Re: Can a Seventh Grade Dropout Get Emancipated
First of all, if you think dfacs is the answer, then you obviously are a closed minded, white and black kind of person and i dont value your opinion. I didnt have a choice when i moved out. I was staying with a family member, he didnt like my attitude (young and dumb) so he kicked me out. But that was where my family lived, so i was homeless. You think i should have gone to dfacs right? Well heres something you may not know when i went to live in a foster home, they made me sleep on the hardwood floor with all of their dogs. So tell me again why DFACS is going to,JUST "FIX EVERYTHING"? Its people like you that ruin childrens lives. I guarantee that i was better off living with my ****ed up family than going to,DFACS. For you to make the comment that im 'shacked' up with my boyfriend is just rude. You dont know my situation, you dont know me, you dont know my family. And you have no right to say that what im doing is wrong. I made the best out of my situation and, dont you worry i will delete my post and NEVER look advice from the public ever again. Hypocritical and close minded asshole. You dont know whats best for, and you dont even have, the right to judge what ive done. Youve never been where i am, and your disrespectful.
I guess little Miss Entitled couldn't restrict her childish rants to forum posts. I found this ungrammatical foot stomping in my PM this morning.
Re: Can a Seventh Grade Dropout Get Emancipated
Well, she's just confirmed without a shadow of doubt that she's an immature little brat with the comprehension skills of a carrot.
I see a bright future before her.
Re: Can a Seventh Grade Dropout Get Emancipated
Children who think they are adults. I know to some extent wanting to be an adult when you're a child is natural. But, some of these children take it to a new level of being rude and immature. Good Grief !
