Can I Be Arrested for Shoplifting if There is No Footage of Me Concealing the Product
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Florida. I had detectives come over to my house the other day accusing me of grand theft from Walmart. They said they had footage of me with the products in my cart, then footage of me walking around without it, but no footage of me concealing the product on my person. I was told they found empty boxes in the garden section, where I had walked in with the products and left without them. Can they accuse me of theft if there is no proof I took the item except the footage of me with then without the product and empty boxes?

Sure they can arrest you. The bigger question is, will a judge or jury believe them over you.
I don't think what they have would be enough evidence to have you arrested thou.

I've got news for you. People were arrested, and even convicted, of theft long before the concept of CCTV existed. Where did you get the idea that there had to be video footage of you committing the theft before you could be arrested for it?

it sounds like they may not have enough evidence or they are not confident in their evidence and were hoping you would fold like a wet paper bag.
- don't talk to the cops
- don't talk to anyone else
- get a lawyer
- stop being a thieving punk

CAN you be arrested without video footage of the theft? Absolutely!
CAN you be convicted without video footage of the theft? Absolutely!
WILL you be convicted with the footage you describe? Maybe.
If you are charged, immediately seek legal counsel.
And, to reiterate Lehk's fourth suggestion: Stop thieving!!!

Yes you can be arrested with no video evidence.

And in this case there IS video evidence to support the charge as well as other circumstantial evidence. Just not video evidence of the actual concealment.
