Emancipating a Minor Who Lives in a Different State Than His Parents
I am 16, i have been living on my own, with a roomate, for 9 months. I have a job, and i pay bills. I also have a car. My parents and I want to make it legal. I live in Mississippi, they live in Louisiana. Both parents are willing. I need to be emancipated for legal reasons, bills in my name ect. I need to know how to start the process and possible cost range

Mississippi has a very limited emancipation law, relating primarily to the ability to enter into contracts pertaining to real estate. See Miss. Code Sec. 93-19-1. If that's what you want and your parents are supportive, go for it. It's not clear that you continue to be domiciled in Louisiana, such that you would be able to seek emancipation in that state under Art. 366 of the Civil Code, or that you want to travel back to Louisiana for the associated legal proceedings, and you can anticipate that an "authentic act" executed by your parents under Art. 368 of the Louisiana Civil Code is going to have be of little value in any other state.
