Re: Can the Police Be Called in the Future Over Shoplifting
Thanks...I was always willing to pay whether people advice me not to. I know I made a mistake and I need to pay the fine for it. All I'm asking is is will it be over after that.
Also police were not called...it's been a week I haven't got any court notice so far n I called them n they said if police were not involved at the time they won't be n no court date. But I'm still worried if that can happen. As I said I will pay the fine for the mistake I did.
Re: Can the Police Be Called in the Future Over Shoplifting
If you are asking us to carve it in stone for you that there will be no criminal charges filed, we can't do that for you. They have up to the statute of limitations to file charges if they choose to. And yes, the police can be called in after the fact. The crystal ball is out being recalibrated; the Magic 8 Ball is broken, and Madame Zuileka has not returned from her vacation. We cannot give you an absolute promise that as soon as you pay the civil demand it is guaranteed over. The law does not say that if you pay the civil demand you cannot be criminally prosecuted.
What we can do is give you the odds. The odds are that if the police were not called at the time, they won't be. The odds are that if you pay the civil demand that will be the end of it. The odds are that you will not get a court notice.
But if anyone were to tell you that it is an absolute sure-fire guarantee that you have nothing whatsoever to worry about as soon as the civil demand is paid and that under no circumstances can you be prosecuted if they didn't call the police at the time, they'd be lying. Chances are in your favor. But it is not a guarantee.
That's as good as you're going to get. If you don't want to have to worry about it, don't commit the crime in the first place.
