Headlight Not on During the Night, VC 24250
My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: CA
I got the ticket as I forgot to turn on the light during the night...the court send the violation notice with 24250-NP VC code, what does NP here mean?
Also on the letter I didn see any traffic school info. I've never had any ticket before, can I request the court to give me the traffic school option?
Thanks

I ran across this URL but don't know how much help it will be. It has a fair number of grammar errors and may contain some questionable reasoning.

The violation here is one point so Traffic School would be something you could request, assuming it's been at least 18 months since the last violation you attended Traffic School for. You might also want to consider Trial by Written Declaration as a first step. If you don't like the result there, you can go back into court for Trial de Novo.
Re: Headlight Not on During Night 24250
No points on this (essentially an equipment violation) so traffic school would be pointless :)

CA Uniform Bail Schedule shows a point for it, unless it is handled as a correctable violation. Not sure how you can correct failing to turn your lights on.
Re: Headlight Not on During Night 24250
Hmm....Dug out the 2014 schedule and it is a point. The previous year's schedule had it listed as 0.
Re: Headlight Not on During Night 24250
DMV website indicates 24250 is worth a point as well.
Re: Headlight Not on During Night 24250
Thanks guys for the reply. Actually I don't think there is anything I can fight here as I did forgot the turn on the light...I am just wondering if the best option for me is to go to court asking for a fine reduction and traffic school?
Also I still didn't get what does NP mean here, I was hoping it is "No Point" but doesn't seem to be the case :)

If you wish to accept responsibility for your actions, yes.

If that were the case, I would think the officer would have marked it as correctable. But again, how do you get a correction signed off when there was no mechanical issue?
Re: Headlight Not on During Night 24250
By turning on the lights? You think if he was going to do that, he'd hand over the proof of correction as well. Seems like a lot of effort to get $25.
Re: Headlight Not on During Night 24250
Sometimes cops can act like jerks, sometimes they are super cool.
I was in a small town in Missouri once, left my hotel at night and the streets were very bright with street lights and light from the adjacent parking lots & businesses. It didn't even dawn on me to turn on my headlights. When I drove a few blocks away I got stopped by a cop. He politely told me "I just stopped you to remind you to turn on your headlights. I wouldn't want to see you get into an accident down the road when you leave town. Have a nice evening". Probably the best experience I've had with a cop.
Sucks you got a $25 ticket
