Can You Still Be Prosecuted for Stealing from a Store After a Change of Ownership
My question involves criminal law for the state of: wisconsin

I was wondering if i can still get charged with stealing from the store i would go to even when the store owner retired and there is new owners? It was a dumb move on my part and i won't and will not do it again. I did go in the store, wasn't sure if I should have done that, but I did not take anything. I am hoping and praying he won't do anything. The old owner was there, what I did happened over a year ago. I made the promise i won't steal and I haven't. I am worried. I am also wondering if he does changed his mind about pressing charges, how long would he have to do it, can he tell the new owners, and what might happen? I have never been in trouble before.

    CAN you be charged? Yes.

    Will you be charged?

Since nothing has happened in the past year since the incident, it's not likely to happen going forward.

The old owner may point you out or share a picture of you to the new owner.

However, the new owner really would have a hard time getting you arrested, because you did not steal from the new owner.

    3 years for a misdemeanor.

    6 years for a felony.

Although, if he decided to do nothing about it at the time, its not very likely that he is going to do anything about it now. I also suspect that the OP is a minor (although I could be wrong) so that would change things up a bit as well.
