Will a Background Check Turn Up All Prior Employment
My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: Michigan.
I am just wondering if a background check could show a place I worked at for 5 days (also seasonal)?
Long story short and I do mean short since I have requested to review my file and add a statement.
- Scheduled for a Tues. morning.
- Me and another person arrive for scheduled shift. We called, I emailed....
- Oops, they VERBALLY changed the schedule to a different day. (So that is two of us who are not aware of this). And we are not all working JUST one assigned area, but multiple....
- Show up for next shift, work 3 hours, get fired for no-call/no-show on the day mentioned above (oh, this is Holiday shift after it settled down).
So anyway....since I obviously won't put this place on my resume....is this something that say....1 year from now...2 years from now...someone can do a background check and go "hey, this person worked here, let's call 'em up?"
Thanks.
Re: What Can a Background Check Show
Sure, a savvy employer could certainly find this information out, but it's unlikely. Don't include it on your resume or on anything online that is associated with you and it was make it more difficult for them to find it, but sure they could find it and sure, they could potentially call them up. But most employers shy away from giving anything more than start/end dates for employment "references".
Re: What Can a Background Check Show
Thank you.
I am still pursuing reviewing my file and adding a note into it, under Michigan law.
Re: What Can a Background Check Show
Nice. Got to review my personnel file. They assured me that even if I put them down on an application (which I would not anyway) they only answer with the dates employed and nothing further.
AND....the nice regional HR dude....I had stated in my letter that I felt me and the guy who did not get the schedule change should be paid for the day, since we did show up as scheduled....I'm getting a check :)
