Can a Parent Take a Minor's Wages

Im a 17 year old male in ohio. Ive been getting direct deposit from wendys for the past year and it goes to my joint pnc account with my moms. If i switch to the wendys paycard which would be under my name, could my mom legally take the card from me?

Unfortunately, yes. From a statutory standpoint you are still a minor (unless you are a veteran) and your income belongs to your parents.

From a practical standpoint, what has your arrangement been with your mother regarding the use of your earnings and why would you expect that she might object to your use of a paycard?

If she doesn't give you a hard time about your use of your earnings, you might be wise to continue the status quo until you become 18.

Alright since yall want to run your mouth let me just shut you up. She was on birth control and i used a condom but it broke twice so one of those times is when she got pregnant. And to the asshole who asked if i knew what birth control is, yes i do, its something ypur parents shouldve used so that you*wouldnt have been brought into this world. If you are a father with the obligation to support your child you could likely become emancipated. Of course you would have to fully support yourself in that case as well. If you cannot do that, then you are a minor with only the rights that come with that status. Welcome to the big leagues, your life was not your own as a minor and it will not be your own until your child is grown.

So you are picking up all the medical bills her parents insurance is not covering and you are saving up for diapers and clothes? Then there is the stroller and car seats, play pen, toys, you better be a hard worker at Wendy's.

Actually i alteady have a stroller, 2 car seats, a crib, a baby mattress, sheets, toys, 3 bouncers, 2 boxes of diapers, and some clothes. So **** off

Not in the state of Ohio.

Here in Ohio, you can only be emancipated by getting married or joining the Armed Forces, both of which require the written consent of BOTH parents - and the Probate Court can decline to issue a marriage license even with parental consent.

I didnt say that that stuff ment i was in a position yo be on my own. That was proving that i am getting prepared for my kid. And i actually am ready to be on my own.

Got a pediatrician lined up? If it's a boy, will he be circumcised? What about vaccination schedules? You've discussed custody and visitation issues with Mama already, right? Already making arrangements for DNA testing and such, to make sure all the Ts are crossed and the Is are dotted? Or are you getting married? Where are you going to live? Who is going to be responsible for primary care? Day care options? Who is working which shift, and when are you each going to get a job that pays more than minimum wage? What plans do you have to increase your earning potential? What about health insurance?

I knew everything when I was 17 too,, reading your posts reminds me of those days,, hey on the bright side, having a joint bank account with your mom entitles you to take out all the money in her account, you can put that into the childs college fund! LOL

That is a good thing. By staying where you are, you can save that much more money for when you turn 18 and the housing and baby expenses hit.

Health insurance, diapers, wet wipes, baby powder, Desitin, baby soap and shampoo, a baby bath, bottles and formula if mom can't breast feed, baby food when the baby hits about five / six months old, clothing every couple of months - all of these expenses add up quickly. Not to mention teething rings and all sorts of items you don't think about before you actually have a baby. Kids are expensive.

And if you don't have health insurance for the baby, or if mom ends up on any form of state aid, they'll come after you for reimbursement.

I honestly don't understand kids having babies. This might piss some people off and it may sound crass, but from reading so many of these types of posts here I can't help but wonder, don't teens get abortions anymore? My God, if I had gotten pregnant at that age my folks would have had me in within a couple of days no ifs ands or buts.
