Then I would have him put you in touch with the owner or find the owner by county tax records. You may be paying money to someone who saw an REO sitting around and decided to make a few dollars off it.

Or we could be talking about the landlord's agent, as there are zero reasons why a landlord cannot work through an agent. Or we could be talking about a sublease.

The owner of the property doesn't know the "landlord" and leases the property to another person. The property is not and will not be subleased nor owned by the "landlord." There is no agent either.

You are choosing not to share the relevant facts. Nobody here wants to guess. If you don't want to share the relevant information, all we can do is tell you to consult a lawyer.

Re: Landlord Does Not Own Property in the Lease
The address belongs to a moms ex of mine who rents the property from his boss. He said I could use his address for an application I was filing. I needed a proof of address so I asked a friend's mother to help me make a lease agreement with the guys address. After a disagreement, the "landlord" decided that I owed her money. She is threatening to sue, since I signed a lease. She has no connection with the guy nor his boss. She has no legal rights to the property.
