Joint Custodian Ordered to Pay Support After Father Went on Public Assistance
My question involves child support in the State of: CA
My daughter lives 50/50 with her father and I. He recently went on welfare and now I have to pay the state child support to pay back what he receives for her. This makes me furious. I pay (and have always paid) for her EVERYTHING. Her health insurance, medical bills, cloths... Everything. I strongly believe he is working construction jobs under the table (daughter says he goes to work everyday) but is taking advantage of the system. Although since I make an O.K. Income and he claims nothing, I have to pay. I feel at a loss here. It's $350 which I could be saving for her future...since I know I will be solely responsible for that too.
Any advice?
Re: Father Making Mother Pay Cs
Welcome to the real world. If you were the one on state benefits, and Dad was the one who had a good job, he'd be paying the state for the monies paid out by the taxpayers to support your mutual child. Since he's the one on benefits, the taxpayers get the payback from you.
Re: Father Making Mother Pay Cs
Incidentally your ex is not making you pay a darned thing.
That would be the State.
(I'm honestly curious - why did you feel it was necessary to make a huge point about genders?)
Re: Father Making Mother Pay Cs
Yes. Although I am also a taxpayer. So I pay twice?? Just looking for legit advice on rectifying this obvious system abuser who is also creating hell on earth for me.
Re: Father Making Mother Pay Cs
Makes you feel the male ex doesn't it? Take a deep breath and hope it goes away when she turns 18 and they don't make you pay for her college also.
Re: Father Making Mother Pay Cs
I do feel for anyone who is in this situation. I'm positive I will be paying for college as well. This is very discouraging.
Re: Father Making Mother Pay Cs
It's discouraging to support your child?
Re: Father Making Mother Pay Cs
That's a terrible thing to say to someone. Shame on you! Its discouraging to pay for someone else to live off the system undeservingly.

I received a love letter from the OP:

Although you really need to keep such heartless comments to yourself. I did NOT come to a Legal Forum to read disrespectful comments from a person who obviously has no useful information to actually assist someone with.
Please keep to yourself and maybe find a legitimate outlet for your negativity.
This is what Amnda posted, after being advised that she owes the State (and not Dad) because the tax-payers don't want to be saddled raising her child.

I simply asked, "It's discouraging to support your child?". I asked a question. A very simple question. A question requiring clarification.
OP, you're very welcome my dear. You keep on supporting your child as ordered and I'm sure the state will allow you to do so. Win/win!
Re: Father Making Mother Pay Cs
Of course, she could look on the bright side: those state benefits Dad is getting aren't really going into his pocket as cash, like a CS check might. :encouragement:
