Getting Out of a Lease Due to Awful Roomates
So my boyfriend and I moved in with two of our friends in August of this year. We signed a 1 year lease. About a month in we realized that one of our roommates was absolutely disgusting and lazy and was slowly trashing the house, that we could deal with. 3 months in my other roommate has moved her boyfriend in and he began selling ounces of weed and more recently a gram of coke, and bars. Now all three of them are best friends who are constantly ****ed up on bars and they all sell weed out of our apartment. They constantly invite their clients in and make tons of noise (my boyfriend and I are in college and always trying to study). They are always so ****ed up that they have let food and dishes pile up and we now have a gnat infestation in our kitchen. My boyfriend has tried to tell them something but they get angry. We told them about a week ago that we are moving out and they have found new roommates (also avid drug users) to help pay the rent. We have talked to the apartment office about subleasing so we can just get out of there shit free but they do not sublease. My boyfriend said that his friend lives next to two girls that lived there who got busted for smoking weed. The apartment complex just ended the lease early without evicting them and they were able to move out into a new apartment within the next month.
Basically my question is, do you think that if we go to the office and explain the real situation (drugs and all) and reference the situation with the two girls that they will allow us to get off the lease without ruining our credit? I am genuinely afraid of what will happen in the 8 months until the lease ends and I also would like to move into a new apartment sooner than that but wont be able to if I have another apartment on my name already. If not, what else can we do?
Re: Getting Out of a Lease Due to Awful Roomates
You can discuss the situation with your landlord and see what they say. They do not have to release you from the lease and, if your roommates refuse to vacate, they can keep on charging you rent.
You can also report criminal activity to the police.

If we do report the criminal activity to the police and they do get busted and evicted, is there anyway we can get it off of our name being that we called in the report and had nothing to do with what they were doing in the apartment?
And will the reference of how they handled the previous situation of the two girls have anything to do with how they handle our situation?
