Store Claims Customer Returned the Wrong Item

I had return the laptop after I bought 6 hours because it's not working! The store did verified all the serial number and everything then they refund my money. 4 months later I bought another camera Nikon D600, 4 days later I found out all the Nikon D600 had recall about the dust and oil after 500 shot. Then I came back to store and return it. The manager and the guy loss prevention manager took me to different room in store said they can't return because it's clearance item, I have to send to Nikon to clean it. Before I bought the camera I had ask the saleman about the return policy with the clearance item, the saleman said in 14 day if the camera is defective then I will have full refund. Now they also said 4 months ago I had return the laptop, that's laptop was swaped out with the old laptop I bought a year ago. I told them no, I never bought any apple laptop a year ago, I guarranty for that. Now they said I had to pay $1850 to take the return laptop back or they will file with the county attorney about felony to arrest me. Can they do that? In my question is, why they didn't file with the county attorney in 4 months ago and now they said it to me they will file? What can I do now? Please give me advise? Thank you very much!

The receipts usually have serial numbers. If the serial number of the return does not match, you have committed felony theft depending on the state.

Yes, the serial number in the laptop and the reciept was match then they refunded my money! The customer service had check everything before the refund the money!

The screen wasn't turn on that's why they check the serial number in the back of laptop with the receipt and in their computer system too! If it wasn't match they didn't refund my money!

It sounds like they do not want you as a customer because you are costing them money, not making them money. You could of course sue for the return, however, there may be a disclaimer regarding their judgement. I had issue with a woman who bought hundreds of dollars in merchandise regularly, tried it/took it all, then wanted to return the 10% remaining in about half of it regularly. I told her she was no longer entitled to returns in my stores after thousands in refunds.

What should I do now? I don't mind about the camera because I will send to the nikon, they will replace me with the new model, or I can sue them about sale the recall item and had been used, because in the camera had the memory card of the pictures and recorded video for their store too. My concern about will they file about my return 4 months ago with the county attorney? If they want to file with attorney then they file before that, why they wait until now? then I have to call and spend the money for the lawyer! And take time too. And what should I do for prepare for the case not to be for arrest!

They also said I am no longer to come to their property, and no longer their customer. if I still come then They will arrest me! I knew their property whatever they want to do, I have no choice!

If the same computer was properly returned and accepted, there is not a likelihood of anything happening.

The computer had been returned and accepted and refunded money 4 months ago!

Unless the OP returned the shell with the serial number attached and only swapped the hardware and/or screen of the laptop?

Kcloveboyz, I'm assuming that you bought an Apple laptop just recently, you said that you never bought an Apple laptop from this store. Have you bought any other brand laptop from this same store in the past?

This store, if you return anything they will check them out everything and serial number

I had bought a 3 sony vaio laptop, 1 macbook air and one macbook pro in the past, but I didn't return them. These items were couple years ago. Also I bought alot of thing in this store recently. But this store if you return anything they will take them to the back room to check out everything before they can refund the money to you. This store is not easy to return the product, thay ask alot of question! They check out everything!

Most stores check serial numbers to products before making a return. They don't check internal parts/hardware until the product is bench tested.

Maybe they found when bench testing the laptop that there was older outdated hardware in the laptop? If this is the case, then they think you swapped outdated internal hardware for the new computers new technology?

If they say that the whole laptop was switched, then like you said, why would they have taken it back in the first place? You need to find out what happened to defend yourself from criminal charges.
