What Conduct Can Result in Sex Offense Charges

My question involves criminal law for the state of: Maryland. I know who has been charged with Assault - Second Degree and Sex Offense 4th Degree - Sex Contact. What could have happened to bring these charges on? This person refuses to tell me what happened.
