while it would seem you have answered your own question, I am guessing the answer you posted is not what you are looking for.

I'm guessing you area asking specifically who is the prosecuting authority for some situation you are involved in.

If so, it would depend on who is levying the charges. Typically if you are speaking of a state statute, the proseciuting authority would ultimately be the states attorney general given authority by state constitution or statute which then gives authority to more local prosecuting attorneys to perform the active portion of the prosecution.

I'm confused. I must serve on the office of the prosecuting authority. Who do I address this to? If I address this to the Prosecuting Attorney would this be to restrictive?

you need to look at the citation. It will tell you what the infraction is and what the statute involved is.

Unless you live in a city that has city specific ordiances and city courts, you want to serve on the local prosecuting attorney which is the local level of the states attorney generel who is the entity pressing the charges.

If it is a city level issue to be dealt with in a city court, you would serve upon the city prosecutor.

On the ticket it should state where you are to send payment and such if pleading via mail. That should give you a real big clue as to the particular court that would be dealing with this issue.

Call the clerk of the court listed on your ticket. They will provide you with the name and address of the prosecutor's office. Don't forget to deliver (or mail) a copy of the pleading to the court. If you PM me with your email address, I can email you a copy of a form for requesting discovery.
