    Running Away from Foster Care
My question involves civil rights in the State of: Arizona. I live in phoenix and I know that it isn't illegal to runaway. I live in a shelter that my case worker put me in its nothing but chaos and confusion. I would like to runaway to Chicago and live with my dad, but I am a ward of the state. I would like to know the repercussions that would take place if i was to leave.

This is not a civil rights issue but is one of custody and right now you are in the State's custody as a ward.

Have you spoken to your dad about coming to live with him? What does he think about it? If he wants you to come and live with him he can file with the State Court and maybe obtain custody in a legal way that will not cause any problems for you or for him. You can get your dad in trouble if you just run away and he takes you in. Harboring a run away is a crime.

So my advise to you is talk to your dad if you haven't already and ask him to speak to a lawyer about how this can be done.

I don't know the rest of the story, why you are a ward of the State but don't just run away. That would be a mistake and you would likely end up back in Arizona and maybe loose all chances of living with your dad.

    Good luck.:friendly_wink:

Generally, the state will support a parent that wants their child over costs to taxpayers to support them.

Unless the state took the child away from the parent in the first place...

This is a minor who quite clearly is not responsible enough to decide on his future living arrangements. There is a reason the State is involved.
