Can an Adult Legally Date a Child if the Parents Consent

My question relates to dating minors: I could not find any thing on this topic, so I had choose one that was close enough. Is it legal for me to date a fourteen year old? I am a girl that just turned eighteen. This boy and I really like each other and we want to date, but I'm not sure if it is legal for us to date in the state of Alabama. What if his parents agree for us to date? I know that you're not allowed to have sex with a minor. I don't plan on having sex with him at all. He wants to ask me to be his girlfriend, but I told him he should discuss this with his parents first. Am I doing the right thing?

It is the policy of this Forum not to enable adults to take advantage of minors in a sexual manner or other.

That depends on your definition of "date". The law does not give one hoot who he hangs out with in the mall, or takes to school events, or goes to the movies with. But the minute you do anything with a fourteen year old that you wouldn't do with your grandfather, I can see problems ahead.

And given that girls generally mature faster than boys, the fact that you, at eighteen, are finding intellectual and emotional companionship with a boy four years younger says something about you and what it says is not complimentary.

What on earth does this have to do with legal fees?

Age of majority in Alabama is 19, not 18.

True, but in this case it's an 18 year old girl looking to date a 14 year old boy. She's not at the age of majority, true, but that doesn't change the answers.
