Daytime headlights not on
Hi,
This is for a Sacramento, CA violation A21461A (driver failure to obey signs/signals)
I'm a bit frustrated by this violation. There was a sign that said Turn Headlights on next 13 miles (enforced by CHP)...but I did not take heed or even think about it since it was 8am brilliant sunshine, completely straight road and cars passing by did not have headlights on. All of a sudden I'm pulled over since I didd not have my headlights on. I understand the safety issues of having signs like that, but to get a $200 ticket for it and to get a point on my driving record is very annoying (I went to traffic school 12months ago)...I thought I would just get a warning, but I was verry surprised to get a ticket.
Anyways, I'm wondering if I should contest it, or if you would think the judge would at least reduce the fine.
Thanks,
Eve
Re: daytime headlights not on
Eve, I also live in the Sacramento area and, while I don't know where you were, I'm familar with those signs. The "lights on" deal used to be a suggestion but some years back, it was added to the multitude of traffic laws within the state.
I sympathize with you but I think the chances of dismissal are slim. As far as reducing the fine, I'm not sure that's ever done in California anymore; I think it's usually 'all or nothing' as it is in many other states. $200 sounds ridiculous but California is absolutely desperate for revenue (bail for jaywalking used to be $110 2 years ago....and it's probably more than that now). Good luck...I hope you plead 'not guilty' and that the cop doesn't show up.
