How Long Can a F1 Student Stay in the U.S. After Dropping Out of a Masters Program
Hi all,
My sister is currently in the states with F-1 visa. The classes started last week and due to personal issue, she will drop from the master degree program.
The VISA/I-20 will expire in 2017. The questions is:
How many days can she legally stay in the USA? I've contacted the Immigration office at the Univ and they didn't give me an exact answer. They just told me ASAP (2 or 3 weeks).
Anyone know the sure answer?
Thanks in advanced.

The "sure" answer can by had by calling the USCIS and asking the question:

If you drop out with prior approval from your school's immigration office, you may qualify for a short grace period -- that's something to address with the office of the college at issue. If you drop out without any such prior approval, you get no grace period and you're expected to immediately leave the U.S..

I know of a university that will make sure they get to the airport for the trip home.
If she was living in university housing, she should have had to vacate her room/apartment immediately. There is usually a waiting list.
