Au Pair Losing J1 Visa Status
A woman who is on a J1 visa - au paur recently left her family and is seeking options of what to do. Her agency says they have NO other familes. Can the J1 be transferred? If so how and to who or what? The agency did tell her they were rescending her visa. What happens with that?

Au Pair Left Family - Losing Status
The au pair needs to apply for (and obtain) another form of lawful status, or return home.

I'm not sure what you mean by having her J-1 visa transferred. If the au pair is seeking an extension, category change, or program transfer for a J-1 visa, such matters are handled by the The Program Designation Branch in the Bureau of Education, Cultural Exchanges and Academic Programs (ECA). She contact them directly at 202-401-9810.

    J1 visa
    Thanks for the response.

I would assume that a corporation holds her J1 Visa. Can it be trransferred to another corp similar to an H1? Are there restrictions to the transfer?

Also, if her visa is rescended from her company when does she have to leave?

    Thanks

    J-1 Visa Holder
It may be possible for the person to transfer to another program sponsor - assuming she is able to find one. If she is eligible for a different type of visa, she can attempt to obtain lawful status by obtaining such a visa. Otherwise, she would have to leave within thirty days of the expiration of her visa (that's a thirty day grace period, in effect, to "pack up and leave".)
