Accused of Stealing and Using Somebody Else's Credit Card
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Minnesota

Here is my question….I was at this friends house. Me and my kids went to my friends moms house for a BBQ. Well, two days after the BBQ I was told that my friends moms credit card was stolen….My friend said the credit card was used a gas station near my house and when they asked for the surveillance camera of it…it showed a black women driving a white van. I am a white women and I drive a white van. This card was used at a few other store near my home. One of the purchases where at a drug store….and I was told I’m on camera.

My question is, I didn't take or use this card. I don’t have an explanation for why I was there during the time this card was used. Except I have been known to go to this drug store 2-3 times a day. Is it possible I was at the wrong place at the wrong time?

It gets worse…..I have 2 prior check fraud convictions from 1999. So I’m terrified an accusation like this will ruin me….regardless if I’m innocent.

I suggest you exercise your right to remain silent and contact a lawyer. Ask to see these videos.

No way do I believe a gas station and a drug store would turn over their surveillance camera footage to private citizens upon request. Didn't happen.

Now if the police were involved, I believe the footage was turned over to police. However, all your friend's mom has to do is report the cc as stolen and dispute the charges and she is not responsible for them. The credit card company takes over the investigation and I can tell you for small amounts, they rarely do anything about it.

Do not speak to your friend or anyone else about this any more. Contact an attorney if the police contact you.

So you drive a white van and the person at the gas station had a white van. Then you are actually on tape at the drug store.

So who is your black friend that was caught on camera at the gas station?

This isn't all some big, horrible, "it would be funny if it wasn't so tragic!" coincidence.

Deputy Dog, Well, considering the fact that I didn’t use my friends card there has got to be an explanation. I called the drug store in question and I asked about there surveillance cameras. The manager said, there is only a date stamp on there cameras not a time stamp. So I might have been to that store that day……but the time is unknown. And the gas station in question, I use to work at 7 years ago. If the manager seen me on camera she would know it was me.

I didn’t use this card period. I have not been around any black women any time recently. And the day in question, my white van was in the shop

Did you ask the drug store and the gas station if they give out their surveillance footage to anyone who calls claiming their credit card was used fraudulently?

Are the police involved in your case?

    JulesJam,
I got a call from a investigator wanting to ask a few questions….I haven’t been charged or anything.. But I am someone of interest.

I did not ask if they give out footage. However the gas station asked me if I knew the date in question…..and I don’t.

    JulesJam,

The investigator called me and I didn't recognize the number so I let it go to voice-mail. He left a message and number to reach him. I called him everyday for 7 days before he returned my call. He finally returned my call yesterday.( the via voice-mail recording identified him as "Investigator Jeremy".

As far as I know police in my county aren't involved. I haven't been notified. The investigator is not from my county...Hes from my friends moms county.

Is he a police officer or not? I can't spend any more time on your thread if you cannot answer this simple question.
