Caught shoplifting in Washington state
Hi, I was recently caught shoplifting 3 dvds (total of $51) at a Target in Washington State. I am a full time college student, and I was wondering what kind of consequences I'm looking at for these charges?
I also might add I was not arrested on site. A police officer just came in and took notes, and then wrote me a ticket.
I was fined $251 by target, and I have set up a payment plan to pay them off within 4 months.

Consult a local criminal defense lawyer to find out if you would be eligible for a diversion program, delayed sentence, or anything else which will allow you to avoid a criminal conviction. If convicted you'll likely be sentenced to probation and fines (possibly also community service) but you may be able to avoid having a criminal conviction on your record.

Yes you were arrested. You were cited and released.
Re: Caught shoplifting in Washington state
I'm a 15 yr old caught in Washington.
it was 3 months ago.
Almost 4...
I haven't gotten anything except civil demand and cilvil release.
Be lucky Washinton offers diversion
at least you can avoid conviction.
It's all that matters really.
Re: Caught shoplifting in Washington state
civil*
oops.
it was what i took + 250 dollar fine.
But if you hear anything from the courts can you let me know?
I'm really curious about what happens.
Re: Caught shoplifting in Washington state
Okay, one last set of questions (thanks for all the help by the way. I know this may have been posted, but I've looekd back pages upon pages and no one seems to have this kind of situation), since I'm looking at probably getting:
Fines
Community Service
+ Probation
2 questions:
How many hours of community service are generally setenced to a first time offender with a clean record?
and also
I was just wondering how community actually works? I live 150 miles away from the actual city I was caught in (I go to school). Would I be able to set up appointments to do work every other weekend or something?
Thanks for all the help.
Re: Caught shoplifting in Washington state
Those will vary depending on your State Laws.
